About the School
The school is fortunate to have a purpose-built class area for the youngest children which includes their own outside play area and toilet facilities.
The school has the benefit of a computer room, library, parent room and school hall. The school has a very modern and light atmosphere.
As Astra has large, attractive and extensive school grounds. There is a large sports field and three playgrounds for different ages of children. With the generous support of the Parent Teacher Association, a number of picnic benches, sun shades and seating has been acquired for the children's enjoyment. In recent years, we have improved the play facilities for the children with the addition of new 'adventure equipment' and quiet corners.
Following a substantial grant from the government, the school was able to purchase a large security fence around the inner perimeter of the school. The gates within the fence are bolted each morning, after the children have entered school, and any parent/visitor arriving after 9am is asked to use the school's main entrance.
We hope you you find the remaining information in this website helpful, but should you wish to visit the school you would be made most welcome. Please telephone the school office for an appointment, and the Headteacher/Assistant Head will be very happy to escort you around the school and answer any questions that you might have.
As a safety precaution, no child is to enter school before 8.40am and parents should ensure that they escort their child to their school entry point each day. Teachers are on duty in classrooms from 8.30am. In wet weather, children are permitted to enter the cloakrooms early from 8.30am
Parents are asked to allow all the children to enter the school cloakrooms unattended in the morning. This is to avoid congestion and promote the child's independence.
Teachers and assistants will be on duty to help with fiddly buttons, bags etc. If you need to speak to your child's teacher, please try to see them in the afternoon, unless there is a message of particular importance. Registration is an important procedure in the school day and takes place at 8.50 am and 1.00 pm. Children who do arrive late after 8.50 am must report to the office so that the school register can be updated. Any lateness after 8.55 am is counted as unauthorised absence.
