Welcome to

Ad Astra Infant School

Here at Ad Astra, we are very fortunate to have a school library, which was officially opened in October 2010 by the Mayor of Poole.

We have over 4500 books in our library collection, consisting of both fiction and information books suitable for all pupils. Many of these are newly purchased from funds provided by the Friends of Ad Astra (PTA). Books are purchased regularly to ensure that the children can enjoy new stories and poems and have access to current information books. Most books are available for pupils to borrow and take home and all classes, from Reception to Year 2, visit the library once a week to exchange their books and browse the shelves.

The library is open throughout the school day and is used by staff for teaching, small group work and for story time. Older pupils are taught the basic library and information skills required to enable them to use the library resources independently to research topics being studied in class.

Pupils are encouraged to enjoy and contribute to the school library by making suggestions for new books, completing book reviews for display and by exploring its contents at every opportunity!
